PLATONOV Adapted by Susan Coyne and Lazlo Marton after Anton Chekhov

One of Chekhov's earliest characters, Platonov is a highly-educated intellectual who progresses no further than being the village schoolmaster. His sharp tongue and brimming passion make him devastatingly attractive to women, who, one by one, fall for him, to tragic ends.

Directed by Darragh McKeon.

MEN OF STEEL

MEN OF STEEL

Men of Steel (Australia)

Winner of the Festival Directors Award at the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Men of Steel take revenge on all those who told you never to play with your food. Two cookie cutters and a host of utensils, animated by three mad chefs, create havoc (and lots and lots of mess) in this feast of cartoon violence and physical theatre. Using food and kitchen staples, Men of Steel recreate famous scenes from iconic movies while their creations get drunk, get pregnant and wage wars, with a humor perfectly suited to all ages. A broccoli forest is felled, a watermelon meets a tragic end and a lettuce dinosaur causes mayhem in this puppet extravaganza of epic proportions.

"This is puppetry at it's most ingenious and disarming ... fabulously imaginative." (The Age)

TROJAN WOMEN

TROJAN WOMEN

City Theatre Dublin (Ireland)

Troy is burning. The Trojan warriors, sworn enemies of the Greeks for over ten years, all lay dead. Women who haven't been slaughtered are carried away as prizes - the spoils of war. Presented in the environmental 'found' setting of The Empty Space at Smock Alley, one of Irish Theatre's most historic sites will host The Trojan Women, a visceral and immediate reworking of the classic Euripides. Deep in the underbelly of the city this ancient tale of the fall of Troy is given a razor-sharp 21st Century edge in a new version by Brendan Kennelly. Directed by Michael Scott and designed by the world-renowned Jean-Guy Lecat, The Trojan Women explores the timeless themes of revenge and consequence in a gritty, ancient setting.
