Curriculum Workshop
These energetic, enjoyable interactive workshops are designed around a play or text that you are studying, including both Junior and Leaving Certificate. We offer four key programmes for schools.
- The Irish Writers Workshop
- The Shakespeare Workshop
- The Classics Workshops
- The Contemporary Workshop
Each of these programmes can be tailored to the specific play or text being studied. In each programme, students will practically explore the plot, the characters, their relationships, general themes and contemporary parallels.
Skills Workshop
All of the following drama workshops implement the curriculum expectations from the Department of Education drama curriculum.
- Confidence & Creativity
Using drama as a way of encouraging and enhancing creative expression, students will learn the basics of drama, develop social skills and inspire confidence and creativity through drama.
- Performance Skills
Using improvisation, acting, movement, mime and voice techniques, students will learn how to analyse characters for performance.
- Screen Acting
Professional drama workers will offer students an opportunity to explore the process of acting on screen. Over a longer term (Option D) it will be possible to create a short film of 3-10 minute duration followed by a screening. During this process, students will learn the key aspects of filmmaking from script writing and storyboarding to character development and process of film shooting.
Social Issues Workshop
Drama is widely accepted as a powerful tool in addressing difficult issues in a safe environment. The Gaiety School of Acting has developed a set of drama workshops that tackle social issues such as racism, bullying and substance abuse.
Each workshop will:
- Explore the topic from the students' perspectives.
- Challenge and support the students regarding their perceptions, in the hope of creating awareness and empathy.
- Focus on the students' personal power to challenge/change the situations they're unhappy with.
Workshops can concentrate on any of the following issues:
