The Writer's Room

In this series of 3 courses, students will explore their creative potential, and learn to structure works for performance on stage. They will also have the chance to work with a dramaturg and director to bring their work from the page to the stage, culminating in a performance of the work created in class.

1. Introduction to Dramatic Writing: This practical ten week course offers students an introduction to dramatic writing, exploring writing for stage, film, television and radio. Over the course participants will be led, by a series of examples, discussions and focused excercises, to explore their creative potential across a range of dramatic forms. Time is set aside to explore participants own ideas and projects. At the end of the term interested students will be offered the chance to continue their training by focusing on writing for the stage. (Cost €250)

2. Practising Playwriting: This follow on course will focus on developing the student's ideas from the Introduction to Dramatic Writing course with particular emphais on playwriting. Working with a new tutor on the development of monologues and duologues for performance on stage, students will be encouraged to explore their own imaginative world in order to create structured and focused works which communicate powerfully on stage. (Cost €250)

3. Your Play on Stage: The final course in The Writer's Room series will give participants the opportunity to prepare finished versions of their scenes for performance in front of an invited audience. Working with a theatre director and dramaturg, the students will be led through a series of excercises where their work will be read and rehearsed by actors in an environment set up to recreate the atmosphere of a theatre company rehearsal room. (Cost €360)
