Dublin is like any city and can be as dangerous as any city. You should be aware of how and where you carry your personal belongings and keep wallets and handbags in sight at all times.
Don't carry your passport around with you and be careful of anything else of value such as cameras, iPods, cell phones and cash. There is a small safe here at the Gaiety School of Acting and we can store small items here such as passports and plane tickets if you wish.
You should also be aware of where you go: stay on the main thoroughfares as much as possible, try to not be around at night time on your own, stick to the well-lit streets and try to steer clear of "undesirables"
There is as much petty and violent crime as in most other capital cities, so just be aware of all of these things. It might be a good idea to let someone know where you are going if you are going off somewhere on your own and let them know when you expect to be back.
