Frequently Asked Questions
- What is city of Dublin like?
- Will there be someone to meet us on arrival?
As students book flights separately it is not possible to meet anyone from their flights. However, Dublin airport is quite close to the city centre - about a 20-30 minute bus or taxi ride (depending on traffic!)
Getting from the airport to the hostel is fairly straightforward.
The Gaiety School of Acting does not undertake to meet students at the airport on arrival. It will be your own responsibility to make your way from the airport to the accommodation.
Taxis in Dublin are very expensive so you should budget approximately €40 if you want to take a taxi. There will be taxis at the arrivals area. Your address is Barnacles Hostel, Temple Lane South, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. Temple Bar is predominantly a pedestrianised area so you will not get brought to the door but very close nevertheless.
There are a number of bus providers who operate from Dublin airport to the city centre. The most comfortable is a private provider: Aircoach (www.aircoach.ie) for the route Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre (Kildare Street). You should buy a single ticket which is €8. Buses leave the airport approximately every 30 minutes. You will be left close to Trinity College from where it is approximately a 5-10 minute walk to the hostel.
On leaving the bus, walk up Dame Street keeping the main gate of Trinity College behind you walking on the right hand side of the street (so you will walk past the Wax Museum and Starbucks). You will come to Nico's restaurant on your right hand side, turn here onto Temple Lane South and the hostel is a short way up on your right.
Another option is Dublin Bus - they operate a number of routes into the city centre. See http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Your-Journey1/Timetables/Airport-Services/ for more information on timetables, routes and prices. Dublin Bus only accept exact fares in coins and will not give change and there is not much space for storing luggage so it will be a less comfortable journey!
